On a frosty winter’s morning a small crowd have gathered outside one of Moorabbin’s newest additions to take comfort from the cold.
Word has spread that 8 Seeds has opened and the crowd has been drawn by the promise of quality coffee and gourmet toasties. And from the satisfied smiles they have not been left wanting.
8 Seeds opened in June 2016, in a tiny spot just bigger than a “hole in the wall” but is fast proving that good things come in small packages.
It was launched by life-long friends Fatih Akdogan and Murat Demirkol who recognised the need for a good coffee shop in the area.
“We’ve been mates for 20 years – we grew up together and have been talking about going into business together for a while and thought this was the perfect opportunity.”
The idea began as a coffee shop but the pair wanted to offer a food option that was quick and easy to prepare in the small shop space.
“What could be better than a toastie? It’s something that everyone loves – young and old – it’s great to warm you up in winter and is classic comfort food that reminds us of our childhood.” In addition to some seriously good coffee, the store offers a range of delicious gourmet toasties that will appeal to meat lovers, vegetarians, vegans and sweet tooths. There is also gluten-free bread available.
8 Seeds is already proving a hit with commuters, local businesses sending in large orders, weekend cyclists and local mums stopping by for a coffee and a Babychino for the kids
Murat said the positive changes taking place in Moorabbin made it the perfect time to jump on board.
“It’s quite exciting with all the new apartments, people moving into the area and new businesses opening,” he said.
“We also heard about Council’s plans to develop the public piazza area right outside the shop we were looking at. It just seemed like a great opportunity so we took a punt.”
“The response from our customers so far has been phenomenal so we hope we’ll be a part of the scene in Moorabbin for many years to come.”
