Can’t decide between a heaping bowl of Korean bibimbap or a steaming dish of Japanese pork katsu don for lunch? At South Road’s Asiatte you can have both.

Part cafe, part Asian eatery, Asiatte offers a menu of the best from Korean and Japanese cuisine and although coffee and Korean and Japanese cuisine may seem like a strange combination, somehow the combination works at Asiatte.

A portmanteau of ‘Asia’and ‘latte’, Asiatte serves up the best of Korean and Japanese cuisine at an affordable price point. Lunch specials are all around $10 and are available for dining in or takeaway. Ask the friendly staff for recommendations, but the lunch box deal offers you good bang for your buck. Choose from karaage (deep fried) chicken lunchbox or opt for the slightly more adventurous baby octopus lunch box that has a bit more spice to it. There is also a selection of freshly made sushi rolls available everyday for a quick takeaway lunch if you’re pressed for time.

You wouldn’t know it walking in, but there’s actually a bright little courtyard out the back with outdoor seating. Stick around after your meal for a coffee and a sweet treat on the outdoor stools rather stylishly fashioned out of milk crates.

Open until 8pm for dinner on weekdays, local diners can duck in for a quick takeaway or settle in for an early dinner. Order a selection of menu items: the agedashi tofu entree is light and crispy the way it’s supposed to be, while the BBQ hot plate is typical of the usual Korean BBQ affair.

Asiatte’s fast becoming one of Moorabbin locals’favourite eateries and for good reason. Come in for the friendly service and stay awhile for the delicious Korean and Japanese dishes.
