Double Garage by Planisphere directly addresses the concept of Place, and draws on form and function of the humble residential garage to allow for various happenings, events, meeting places and business opportunities to be inserted, creating street activation. Once the garage was the interface between the house and the street, between the family and the community, and this submission aims to ensure its continuation in the context of a denser urban life.
Double Garage considers local ingenuity as a strategic device. It advocates for community involvement in building place, and it underlines the important connections people have with objects, spaces and each other. The jury was attracted to the referencing of the culture and history of its suburban milieu into Moorabbin.
