Favourite Dumplings & Noodles is best done with a big group of family and friends because let’s face it, you’ll want to order a good portion of the extensive menu. At least you’ll want more than a few plates of their dumplings.
Like any suburban Chinese restaurant, to say the menu is extensive is almost an understatement. There are 16 menu items in the dumpling section alone, and the choice of noodles is more than twice that number. The logistics don’t seem to add up, but somehow the friendly staff at Favourite are still able to tend to lunch and dinner crowds quickly and efficiently.
Mainstays of the average Australian Chinese restaurant are still there (think sweet sour pork and Shanghai spring rolls), but order adventurously to make the most of your experience. The chilli oil dumping is a test of your chilli tolerance, while the chicken with black pepper sauce on sizzling plate is a milder dish that comes to the table sizzling hot and is best shared with fellow diners. The Shanghai style crispy duck dish is also a local favourite and is great alongside the vegetarian fried sliced rice cake.
On weekdays, it’s all about the takeaways, but settle in for a Friday night feast. Favourite is fully licensed and offer a range of beer and wine, but you can opt for BYO wine. Conveniently located down from the Kingston Arts Centre, Favourite Dumplings & Noodles also makes an ideal spot for a pre-show meal.
