Holistic Living

Staying healthy is about much more than finally booking your twice yearly doctor’s visit, exercising and eating healthy. From yoga, acupuncture to podiatry, Moorabbin’s health clinics offer a range of expert services that’ll keep you in top shape.

Southern Yoga and Health Centre

Christine Villiers’ yoga studio overlooking Station Sreet has been a mainstay of peace and tranquility at the centre of Moorabbin for 20 years. Since learning yoga from the studio’s previous owner and guru Shanti Gowans, Christine has committed herself to continue developing her yoga practice and to share her wealth of knowledge.

“I love the holistic nature of yoga and I’m still learning even today,” Christine  says. “We don’t just focus on the physical aspect, we also focus on the mental benefits and our students’ general  wellbeing.”

Specialising in Hatha Yoga, a classical practice of yoga, a typical class at Southern Yoga will guide students through deep relaxation techniques, stretches, breathing practices and meditation. Students are encouraged to go at their own pace and all skill and fitness levels are welcome. Meanwhile Yoga Fit, a slightly more active class, has more strengthening posture work to help students improve their core strength, build muscle tone and improve posture for everyday life.

Classes run for between 1 hour and 1 3/4 hrs, depending on the day and are available on a casual, walk-in basis or by membership.

Enerchi Medical Clinic

Since opening in Moorabbin in 1996, Enerchi Medical Clinic has specialised in offering some of the best Chinese and alternative medicine services in Melbourne. Owner Dr Doug Davies has been an advocate of holistic healing methods and his Moorabbin clinic offers a range of treatments including osteopathy, acupuncture, Chinese massage, naturopathy and more.

Having practiced Chinese medicine for over 30 years, Davies is now dedicated to not only help patients using alternative healing methods, as well as being a mentor to Chinese medicine graduates and fellow practitioners.

Combining physical therapy such as massage and osteopathy with prescribed Chinese medicine, Enerchi ensures that patient’s needs are catered to. Treatments, which can include a combination of the use of Chinese herbs and massage or acupuncture, are tailored to the needs of each individual and are all considered with goal to achieve a balance in the body’s systems.

New patients to Enerchi are advised to book an appointment for an initial consultation, after which they will be prescribed a health plan tailored to their needs.

Moorabbin Foot Centre

Podiatry may not the most glamorous of medical practices but at Moorabbin Foot Centre, a modern podiatry clinic that offers services ranging from general foot cafe to sports injury treatment, it’s all about providing expert care an often neglected body part.

Led by former vice-captain of the Melbourne Vixens netball team Chelsey Tregear, Moorabbin Foot Centre’s team of trained podiatrists can cater to a host of podiatry problems. Tregear’s professional training and sports career has led her to develop a keen interest in sports podiatry, treatment and prevention of sports injuries and management of diabetes related ailments.

Meanwhile Tess Beddome, a member of the Moorabbin Foot Centre family since 2010, specialises in ingrown toenail treatment and surgery and her background in cross-country running and touch football has led to an excellent understudying of sports injury prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.

Other services offered by the clinic include children’s foot care, orthotic therapy, diabetes assessments and myofascial dry needling. Bookings are advised to ensure your needs are tended to promptly, and home visits are available for elderly patients unable to visit the clinic.
