Street cubed

‘Street Cubed’ seeks to address the challenges presented by Moorabbin Junction including it’s high density, poor interface with existing site uses, extensive impervious surfaces which results in implications for microclimate and the water cycle, minimal open space, and the pedestrian realm confined to the roadside.

Street Cubed’s solution is to:

  • Facilitate the evolution of place
  • Promote health & wellbeing
  • Foster community interaction
  • Develop the local economy
  • Enhance the urban ecosystem

The vision is to realign Taylor Street and drop it by 2m, consolidate carparking and integrate with the existing basement, distribute retail GFA over 2 levels and elevate public space above the carpark and roof spaces.

The result is the creation of a civic hub with adaptable public spaces for community use including passive, event and market modes. Parking will available in the form of 150 surface carparks as well as 200 basement carparks including basement access to the Woolworths carpark. There will also be additional residential/commercial GFA (with a 24 hour user catchment), ground level retail GFA and improved pedestrian connectivity over Taylor Street and connection to station.

The site will be more visually appealing with activated streetscape at ground level, activated pedestrian linkages to the supermarket, art installations and artist ‘incubator’ studios co-located with food and beverage.
